This is What Dreams are Made Of

Lizzie McGuire is Making a Comeback

During the Disney Plus panel at the D23 Expo, it was announced Hillary Duff will be making her way back to her Disney roots with a revival of Lizzie McGuire. The show has no expected release date yet, but will be a part of the Disney + streaming service. Both the shows’s lead star, Hillary Duff and creator, Terri Minsky will be a part of the rebooted series. The rest of the cast is still unknown, but Hillary said is safe to say that most of the original cast will be back to reprise their roles. Once I heard about this, I knew I had to share met thoughts and what better day to do so then on Flashback Friday.

My 90’s baby heart could not contain itself when I heard the news. Lizzie McGuire was a top 3 favorite show of mine on the Disney Channel growing up. I was in elementary school when the show was airing and I remembered how I couldn’t wait to go to Junior High and dress up like Lizzie. No matter how dorky or clumsy she was, I thought she was so sweet and stylish. Then of course in 2003, we got the Lizzie McGuire movie. Who else annoyed their parents singing “This is What Dreams are Made of” over and over again? Oh, just me. I had that song and dance down just by spending hours and hours practicing in my living room like if I was gonna one day perform in Italy.

When Hillary Duff started her music career and began producing albums and touring, her concert was actually the first concert I ever attended when I was 10 years old. My parents bought me tickets to go for my birthday and I was beyond excited. I bought her poster and CD and even went to Build-A-Bear for the first time where I named my bear, Hillary. (Bear can be seen in pictures below). It is safe to say I was more than just a fan and completely loved everything Hillary did.

Lizzie McGuire was just one of those shows that I felt as a kid was so relatable and discussed a lot of issues. Remember the episode where Lizzie wanted to buy a bra, but was too scared to ask her mom. I think it safe to say a lot of little girls watching Lizzie McGuire can agree Lizzie was a good girl to look up to and we all wanted to be her friend. Lizzie was a pre-teen when I watched her and now the revival will focus on her turning 30, a pretty monumental age for a woman.

The new reboot will focus on Lizzie turning 30 while living in New York City. It will continue to show us how Lizzie’s life isn’t perfect and how she will have to navigate through the struggles of being an adult. Since I am now also a young woman, I think its great that Lizzie is growing up with us and we can relate to her in a whole new way like she never left us. It also been said we will still get the fun animated version of Lizzie popping in during episodes sharing her inner thoughts. Hopefully it will still have the same tongue and cheek as we remember, but with newer relatable issues during each episode.

Are you excited for the Lizzie McGuire revival? What other Disney Channel shows would you like to see make a comeback? What do you hope to see in the new episodes?
