Recap, Theories, & Speculations
Yesterday millions around the world probably had an alarm on their phone to not miss the newest trailer released for Spider-Man: No Way Home set to come to theatres this December. Spider-Man has probably been the most anticipated Marvel movie since Endgame and it really hit hard when the release was pushed. Theories and speculations have been growing all year as fans have done everything to predict who will be in the movie from villains, love interests, and our two other cinematic Spidermen, Andrew and Tobey. Now if you were unaware of the new trailer release or haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend you to click this link and watch it right now. Go ahead, do it because we are about to break down this trailer and begin our theories. Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailer
Now I’m going to be honest. All year when fans kept pushing for Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire to be in the new movie, I personally thought there was no way it was going to happen. I felt like it was another instance of fans pushing for bigger ideas than what Marvel is actually trying to produce. For example with Wandavision and everyone being so certain we were going to get Mephisto. Even though sometimes fans’ theories and ideas are really good and creative, at the end of the day Marvel, Disney, or in this case Sony is going to do what they want to do. People should still come up with their own ideas and predictions, but I’m one who doesn’t like to get my hopes up too much so I don’t end up disappointed. Especially with Spider-Man, I have been looking forward to it for so long that I want to enjoy it and not fill my head up with expectations. However, after seeing this new trailer, I think the fans might actually be right. It could very well be possible we will see all three Spider-Men come together or at the very least two for an epic battle. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights from the second trailer.
Captain America’s Shield
Before I get into the nitty-gritty questions, I wanted to highlight one of the possible missed trailer moments. In this scene, we see a rebuilding of the Statue of America, but with the addition of Cap’s Shield. So far in the Spider-Man series, we have seen the aftermath of losing Iron Man, but it is nice seeing a tribute to Captain America as well. It honestly would make sense for the cities in America to add the Avengers as part of their American history and create tributes for them. They did bring back the half population after all and the idea of superheroes and outer beings is becoming very normalized in societies. Hopefully, the rebuild of the statue will not go in vain and be destroyed in the final battle.

Dark Suited Spider-Man:Is Tom Holland in the suit?
Getting new Spider suits isn’t exactly too strange or out there, but the man in the suit is the big conundrum. I don’t think Tom Holland is wearing this new suit. My first reasoning comes from the dialogue in the trailer itself. Obviously, a trailer is heavily edited and not everything should be taken so literally, but I couldn’t help but feel like there was a hint. At the 1:12 mark in the trailer, we see this second shot of a black Spidersuit with a Doctor Strange-like ring around the wrist. During this moment, Doctor Strange says “There are others out there, we need to send them back!”. I could be reading way too far into this, but I don’t think Doctor Strange was only talking about the villains at this moment. This might be literally what he means, but what if the editors use this quote to actually hint at other character reveals. I say this because the editor didn’t choose to use more villain shots during this quote but rather a scene of Spider-Man swinging and revealing this new suit. Some fans have even analyzed the different eyes in the mask to theorize this possibly being Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man.
Second Green Goblin:Another goblin besides Dafoe?

For months we knew William Dafoe was coming back and reprising his role as the Green Goblin, but after this trailer’s release, it seems we may have two Green Goblin appearances. For the most part, we have seen Green Goblin with his mask on but for a quick second, we see another man on a glider in a different suit. The scene plays out really fast with little visual of the character’s face but I think it is safe to assume this is actually the Green Goblin from the Amazing Spiderman universe. The character has a similar build to Harry and uses blade weapons like in the final battle in Amazing Spiderman 2. I also really doubt they would be crazy enough to bring James Franco into this project and this might be more confirmation we will get Andrew Garfield. I honestly hated this Green Goblin, but in an event like this, the more the merrier.
Battle Scene:Only One Spider-Man?
The most anticipated moment of this trailer and the movie is the final battle. Everyone was hoping for a multiple Spider-man reveal, but instead, we see one solo Spider-man against multiple villains: Sandman, Electro, and Lizard. Which it is still pretty cool to see all these villains come together, but not exactly what everyone was hoping for. Marvel isn’t that slick though. In the past, we have seen Marvel lie to us numerous times during their trailer releases with changed dialogue and using CGI to eliminate certain details. How can we not forget the Infinity War trailer? Unfortunately for them, people are digging and they have pointed out that there is no way there is only one person fighting in this battle. In the trailer released in America, Lizard is shown jumping forward but not towards Tom Holland. Even more than that, the Brazilian trailer showed just a second more and actually shows Lizard turning around as if someone was attacking from behind. Coincidence, I think not! See below for yourself and you will see it’s pretty evident there are more players in this battle. Of course, we don’t fully know who is helping to fight and this could be Doctor Strange or even MJ and Ned since we know they will be near this battle somehow. I really hope this isn’t the case though and this is the confirmation we need for Andrew and Tobey’s return.

Saving MJ:Who will save MJ?
Quite frankly as soon as this scene played in the trailer, of course, I had a flashback to seeing Gwen Stacey falling in Amazing Spiderman 2 which then led me to believe it will not be Tom Holland saving MJ, but Andrew Garfield instead. I immediately felt this way because I thought it would be so amazing for Andrew’s Spider-man to get another chance to save a loved one. I have read others agreeing with this theory and some have even gone as far as to analyze Spider-Man’s glove to prove it is indeed Andrew’s hand. I really doubt they would have MJ die now and like this, therefore I think the scene parallel has to be a setup for Andrew to have a big save.

I still don’t fully know if we get all three Spidermans united and none of us will ever know until we see the movie. I think it is more likely now that we will at least get the return of Andrew Garfield which I can totally accept. I am excited for the movie no matter what and want to enjoy it, but Marvel would truly be making history if they can pull this off. Besides who doesn’t like a reunion?
Do you agree with these theories? Do you think we will see Toby and Andrew fight alongside Tom Holland? What other theories do you have for No Way Home? What or who are you most looking forward to?
